Dans un monde confronté au changement climatique, à la dégradation de l’environnement et à la perte de biodiversité, la transition écologique devient un enjeu majeur. A travers un questionnaire nous avons souhaité connaître la perception de ces enjeux par la communauté de la Société Française de Microbiologie (SFM) et de voir ensemble comment agir pour minimiser l’impact écologique des activités professionnelles de soin et de recherche sur l’environnement.

Pour cela un questionnaire qui comprenait 42 questions a été envoyé à l’ensemble des membres de la SFM. Les questions avaient comme objectif de déterminer le profil des personnes répondants à ce questionnaire, puis de connaître leur perception des enjeux climatiques, les actions personnelles et collectives pour l’environnement qu’ils ont mises en place et d’identifier au sein de ce panel des futurs acteurs du développement de la transition écologique au sein de la SFM.

Trois cent dix membres de la SFM ont répondu, soit 20% des membres. Malgré une légère sur représentation des 45-65 ans, ce panel est représentatif des membres de la SFM en termes de genre, de catégories professionnelles, avec un équilibre entre les microbiologistes médicaux et non-médicaux. Par contre, ces répondants ne sont probablement pas représentatifs de notre communauté en termes de sensibilité au changement climatique car 11% ont indiqué avoir déjà fait une fresque du climat ce qui est une valeur très supérieure à la moyenne nationale et mondiale. A la quasi-unanimité, les participants pensent que le climat de la planète change, que l’être humain y joue un rôle dominant à essentiel, que c’est une préoccupation importante et que cela nécessite un changement des pratiques.

Parmi les questions concernant les actions personnelles ou collectives mises en place par ce panel, plusieurs sont intéressantes à détailler. En effet, le transport domicile-travail avec véhicule thermique reste largement en tête devant les autres modes de transport plus écologique: transport en commun, deux roues électriques ou non. Cela s’explique par les critères de choix principaux pour le choix du mode transport où le critère écologique arrive en 4e choix après « ne pas avoir le choix », « être autonome » et le critère économique.

Pour les déplacements en avion, 70% des participants indiquent avoir choisi des alternatives : transport ferroviaire ou participation en distanciel.

Concernant les achats, clairement les critères environnements et de potentiel réutilisation sont très peu pris en compte lors des achats.

Même si 73% des participants indiquent trier leur déchet professionnel, il existe clairement un frein dans le tri du fait de possibilités limitées (recyclage principalement axé sur le papier !) et un questionnement sur l’absence de filière pour certains autres déchets.

De même, concernant la gestion du développement durable au sein des laboratoires, moins de la moitié des participants indiquent que ce sujet a été déjà abordé au moins une fois, et seulement 27% indique l’existence d’un référent au sein du laboratoire.

Pour finir avec un peu d’optimisme, 40% des participants indiquent avoir déjà modifié leurs pratiques professionnelles pour des pratiques plus raisonnables et les 59% souhaiteraient le faire, même s’ils craignent que cela soit compliqué.

La question qui reste ouverte concerne la raison de l’abstention importante à la participation à ce questionnaire qui est de 80%. Quelle est leur perception du changement climatique et de la dégradation de l’environnement et de la biodiversité ?

Face à cette situation, le bureau de la SFM propose la constitution d’un Groupe de Travail (GT) Transition Écologique au sein de la société savante pour travailler la question en collaboration avec les différentes tutelles dont nous dépendons avec comme enjeux, la sensibilisation et la proposition de recommandations.

Un groupe de 31 répondants ont déjà indiquées qu’ils seraient prêts à s’investir au sein de notre société savante.
